The Bear and Raven theater
is in the same area as the Segway tour. Karen Duquette wanted to partake
in the theater adventure, but it did not happen. Lee Duquette was just
not interested in spending the extra money. There were a couple of displays
on the sidewalk outside of the Segway office that everyone enjoyed before
going on the Segway tour, shown below. |
Below: The Bear and Raven
- the Raven whispered to the Bear, " I really enjoy watching
you fish for salmon in Ship Creek. The bear's large smile indicates
that he loves it too". |

There were
colorful flower baskets hanging throughout the city, and other unusual
displays. |

This was a nice Segway tour
and the workers were also very nice. This was the 17th Segway tour that
the two RV Gypsies have taken, but not their last. The front of her
shirt lists, the Segways tours they have taken.
Karen Duquette's battery for her camera needed charging, and they
even charged it for her. So Lee Duquette used his camera to take photos.
After showing the standard Segway movie, the two RV Gypsies and family
were ready for their Segway tour of Anchorage. For more information

Karen
Duquette and her sister Ilse Blahak played around on their Segway while
John and Renee took training. It was Karen and Lee's 17th Segway tour
(different places of course) so they did not need training. It was the
first time on a Segway for John and Renee, and Ilse's second time. Karen's
shirt lists all of the places that they have taken Segway tours. |

John Smythers quickly learned
how to operate the Segway and joined the pro status. |

Renee decided to ride the
three wheeler. Then it was time for the five of them to tour around
Anchorage with their tour guide, Ryan. |

the small camera and expertly snapped pictures of everyone as they rode
along on their Segway. |

Duquette had the camera throughout most of the Segway tour, but eventually
Karen Duquette got the camera from him and took a few photos of him. |

Below: While everyone else was listening
to Ryan talk about Anchorage, the two RV Gypsies took time to free-wheel
around the park. Actually, the two RV Gypsies were told that they could
go on ahead of the others during most of the tour, and Ryan told them
where to wait up for their family. |

Below: The Anchorage Light
Speed Planet Walk is a scale model of our solar system. Here, the two
RV Gypsies experienced the relative size of the planets and their distance
from the Sun. The scale was chosen so that a leisurely walking pace
mimics the speed of light. On this scale, each step equals the distance
light travels in one second (186,000 miles).
It would take about 8 minutes to walk from the Sun Station at 5th
and G to the Earth station at 5th and K, just as it takes 8 minutes
for a light beam to travel from the real Sun to the real Earth. Similarly,
it would take you and a light beam 5 1/2 hours to reach Pluto at Kincaid
Park.
The Anchorage Light Speed Planet Walk was designed by Eli Menaker,
a 2004 graduate of Service High School in Anchorage.
Begin at the sun station to see a tiled representation of the Sun
(weighing close to 6,000 pounds) and learn about the evolution of our
solar system and discover interesting facts about our star, the Sun.
Then navigate the planet stations along 5th Avenue and the Coastal
Trail to experience the scale of our solar system and unique features
of each planet.
On your way to Mercury, you can stop at The Imaginarium and see their
indoor exhibit of the solar system. If you're lucky, you'll arrive for
one of their lectures about the solar system. |

the Segway tour when they saw the display shown above, and unfortunately
they did not get back to it in order to complete the entire walk. |

Back at the Segway training
area, the two RV Gypsies and John enjoyed a bit of cartoon fun. |
